SkyCorder Events:

The Byron Boys Boogie was held at Bay Area Skydiving October 4 thru 6, 1996. One of the many events during the boogie was a SkyCorder Freefall Race. SkyCorders were used to determine who was the "Fastest Faller". Skydivers could participate in the event, or just demo a SkyCorder to see how fast they fall in their favorite position. They had the opportunity to experiment with different jump suits or body positions.

The first skydive "race" was held at Skydive Arizona in December, 1995. A special version of SkyCorder software was created for the event to provide more consistant speed measurements. The rate was measured between 11,000 and 5,000 feet only. After exiting at 14,000, this gave contestants time to speed up before the "starting gate" and time to slow down to a safe speed before opening. In 1996, the measurement window was shortened to 8,000 - 5,000 feet. After a longer acceleration, this is potentially the fastest part of the dive.

Participants typically used a head down, no-lift dive position, although others experimented with a feet-down position. There was even a competition for the slowest rate. The fastest speed was 259 MPH.

A similar event was held at Skydive Hawaii in February 1996.

Future speed events will be even more exciting with the new Peak Rate feature, now available.

In May 1997, the Annual Boogie on the Beach at Byron Bay was held in New South Wales, Australia. A SkyCorder was raffled off as one of several event prizes. Another SkyCorder was given away at the Sunshine Boogie in Vernon, BC, Canada in September 1997.

The SkyCorder was on display in the G R Devices Booth at the Parachute Industry Association International Symposium, January 10-14, 1999, San Diego, CA.
